MARKING CODES
BLIND CONTOUR (Self-Portrait)
(codes will be located in pencil on the back lower bottom left corner of your work)
· (M) … Media (did you use 18 x 24” newsprint paper) and black conte
· (Pl/S) … Placement/Size (have you worked full-size and is your drawing size as (life size)
· (FofR) … Frame of Reference (is it 18 x 24 “) and have you used the picture plane properly … (does the frame of reference echo the composition … portrait style rather than landscape)
· (LS/LV=LQ) … sensitive use of line variety will improve overall quality of drawing
· (LS) … you need to build up levels of concentration – some of the lines used suggest a superficial treatment of the forms possibly, or you were drawing too quickly and lost eye-hand co-ordination during the drawing,
· (LV) … it is evident that you were concentrating and focused but your hand was not 100% accurately articulating the tactile nature of what it was seeing
· (CSLS) … did you use a Consistent Single/Side Light Source (a Right Light)?
OUTLINE of the FIGURE

· (Pl) … Placement (have you worked full-size and is the figure balanced and centered on the page) … is your drawing approximately 1-2” from the top+bottom and/or 1-2” from sides
· (Pr) … Presentation (is your paper flat, without tears, wrinkles and doodles) with Name on the
bottom right, in black conte, clearly printed about 1 “ high (with your first and last name)
· (FofR) … have you used the picture plane properly … does the frame of reference echo the composition (ie, vertical for standing pose and horizontal for reclining)
· (L2D) … drawing light to dark will allow you to make adjustments if necessary without overworking your drawing in areas and overall in general (do erased lines show)
· (L2S) … drawing large to small should allow you to see the entire overview of the large shape of what you are drawing right from the start so that you can locate and center your drawing and then gauge how smaller shapes fit inside properly drawn larger shapes
(P) … Proportion … did you locate Visual Center (VC) of your composition and of the page and line these up first … then … did you notice negative shapes/spaces (NS) and double-check
